Today I found out my work was one of the items that was unfortunately cut out of Flea Market Style Magazine by the publisher to make room for some last minute ads. They did mention my work (on page 12), but wires were crossed & my website was inadvertently printed incorrectly
(my website is 'Studio Lara' NOT 'Lara Harris')...such is life.
On the bright side, to soften the blow a bit, I am being featured on the Flea Market Style Blog next Wednesday (the 24th) & although I can't say too much, my work WILL be appearing in print at some stage this year so stay tuned! :)
**Now, without further adieu, the winner of the FREE issue of Flea Market Style Magazine & a FREE Giclee Print by yours truly is: bumblebecky !
THANK YOU to everyone who entered & for your WONDERFUL COMMENTS!**ALSO! For those still searching for their copy of Flea Market Style Magazine, try contacting Margo at Margo's Junkin Journal! She is selling issues from her blog! :)
That is a bit of bad luck right there. I wouldn't blame you for being disappointed. I'll look for you on The Flea Market Style blog next week. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a let down. I'm so sorry. I know you must be disappointed. There will be bigger and better and more wonderful things to come. I'm sure of it. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I won't lie, it was pretty disappointing, I didn't even know until I literally opened up my issue today and couldn't find any photos of my work... but I know it is all part of 'the business'...I am thrilled though that they are going to feature me on their blog! They have really been good to me, so I really cannot complain...everything happens for a reason and I do believe good things are on the horizon!;) Stay tuned!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, Lara! I have been there...flipping through feverishly, thinking I missed it and then the pang of realizing I'd been cut!! Good things are coming your way and congrats on the blog mention. You are truly talented and I look forward to seeing more of your work everywhere! xo
ReplyDeleteHi Lara, oh what a shame about the cut (bloddy editors!) Joking :) I got hold of Margo & she is sending me one so thanks for the info, I will be checking the post next week every day. Will be going over to the flea market blog on the 24th, keep at it Elaine x
ReplyDeleteOh Lara, I can only imagine how disappointed you are. At least you're getting some recourse from it. (My work was featured in a 2 page spread one time in Small Room Decorating, and they gave all the credit to the carpenter and forgot to mention my name anywhere in the article!! Be thankful that didn't happen to you.)
ReplyDeleteThe up side is that people know about the magazine because of the Flea Market Style website, so all of it's readers are likely to go there and see your feature. Also, by putting your name in the magazine, people can google your name. I just did it and your blog showed up. So in the end, I think you'll still get the exposure.
It's actually a good thing for you if you think about it. You get a feature all about you that you can link to forever. that's good, right?
I love your work. I especially love the lady you just painted. Just beautiful.
so sorry lara! I know how excited you were! :( Good things seem to be coming your way:)
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and knowing someone as talented as you are will not linger in the shadows for long.

I'm so sorry, Lara! That must have been disappointing - my husband is an actor and sometimes he does a part in a movie...then we get the DVD to watch it - and he's been cut out! It is always disappointing - but things get cut in the 'business' world. I will look forward to seeing you on the blog this week.

Wow!I am just SO touched by all of your comments!Thank you so much!I know it's not the end of the world, it was just a bit of a sad day yesterday...it can be so hard as an artist to get your work recognized as there is so much talent out there, but I am very grateful that they are going to do a post about my work next week :)...I'm sure there were some others who were left out, it just stings a bit when that someone is you. Thank you again for your kind messages, they really have brightened my day! :) God bless!
ReplyDelete...and I am still very grateful for the mention in the magazine and AMEN for Google Search! If someone Googles 'Lara Harris' I come up in 3rd place!Who-hoo! :)

Hi, Lara, I'am surely feeling your disappointment, booooo..."D You deserve to have had a "Full" spread in that mag! But, I just know that you will surely have "your day" and I will amend my Blog Post for the link to Flea Market Style's Blog Feature, which is also very special to be apart of. You and Your art are truly Beautiful! I have added your blog and your website as well! You have surely made a fan out of me! "It is not what happens to us, it is how we react to, what happens to us, that shows our true character." (unknown...maybe it was me, just now...:D, It came from somewhere..

Christine
Thank you so much Christine & I totally believe what you said! I am grateful even for just the mention...I know there were many who did not even get that, and who would've been just as, if not more deserving! :) God bless!
ReplyDeleteWe at FMS love LARA and I can say how personally Jenny and I have been touched by her portrait of our Yorkie, Oscar. We have it hung in a place of honor in our studio kitchen and I look at it every day. There can be a downside to publishing and I hope that I have expressed that in some of my FMS posts about the creation of the magazine. These edits are not always within our control and it leaves us very sad and frustrated as well. Please know, Lara, we treasure your talents, we value your contribution and we will provide a place to show off your talents in the very near future. My best and grateful thanks, Matthew Mead
ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you SO very much Matthew!:)I totally understand that these things can and do happen in the publishing business, and am still very thrilled to have been included in the Premier Issue (which is fabulous by the way!) Thank you so much for taking the time to write, you & the FMS team are truly a class act!God bless!~Lara
ReplyDeleteI never knew there was such a magazine. I would love it and I am happy I found your blog.
