There is Some Beauty in Death...

My Grandpa finally passed last night after 3 days of struggling to breathe....my sister had just readjusted him, and had told him if he saw 'the light' that it was ok to go into it...she then left the room for just a moment when my cousin's little girl, Kalista who was standing in the doorway, said 'Oh he just opened his eyes!' not realizing she had just witnessed his passing. She is 11, so it was a bit upsetting for her once she realized he was gone, but my Grandma told her she had actually been given a blessing as she saw 'Bupa' enter into Heaven. I have a feeling he had waited for Kalista to come see him before he left as she was his little angel...I am so thankful to God that he has taken my Grandpa up to Heaven, no more pain, no more struggle, and what an incredible gift to allow him to come home to die, surrounded by so many people who loved him...it's how any one of us would want to pass I'm sure...he will be so greatly missed. (my Grandparents were married 63 years...he was 87.)

Thank you for all the warm messages, they are a true comfort. God bless!~Lara

  3. Beautiful story.
I was Blessed to be at the passing of both my Mom and my Dad, and I think Kalista will one day realize the Gift that she was given to be able to witness your grandfather's journey to Heaven.
So beautiful that after 63 years of marriage he was able to be home with his wife and family.

  7. It is always more difficult for those of us left to deal with the loss of a loved one than for the person who enters heavens gates. It is a comfort to KNOW that your Grandpa is in heaven.

  8. Dear Lara,
I was going to tell you in my last comment that death is like birth... but I thought it was not the time. But now you know. It really is...One nurses a loved one out of this life just as one gives birth. It is an everlasting cycle and one never really does die...I know you will miss your grandpa. Don't forget when you see love, when you feel love, like when you paint, he will be there...

  11. My thoughts are with you and your family. You have my sympathy. I hope your Grandma hangs in there, it has to be so tough for her to lose the love of her life after all these years. They're lucky they had so much time together.

  12. You have my sincerest condolences upon your Grandfather's passing. How very sweet that he is now at peace and rest and has no more suffering. Sometimes I think our loved ones are just waiting for us to give them permission to leave when they are on the brink of death like that. It is lovely that your Grandfather was in the presence of loved ones when he did pass.
